This review covers the alternative rock track That Dog – Old Timer.
This track was released in 1994 on a self-titled album.
The track starts with a bass guitar. A drum kit and lead guitar comes in. The vocals then come in basically talking.
From there, the vocals then take the track into the main chorus. In this section, the BPM is seemingly increased. This is capped off with a slower instrumental section.
After that, the vocals then continue talking through the next verse for the most part. They then get into a more singing side of things with the track pulling back.
From there, the vocals then take the track into the next round of the main chorus. The vocals then slow down and repeat the lyrics of one line from the main chorus, leading the track out.
One thing about this track is the fact that it is very short. As such, squeezing in anything meaningful can prove difficult. In this case, it doesn’t really show off much.
The vocals sound half baked. It’s like they can barely be bothered to sing through the track. It’s as if there is that undercurrent of only doing this because they have to. If the vocals can’t get excited for the track, it makes it that much harder for me, as a listener, to be excited for the track.
The guitar work is decent. Weirdly enough, the best part of the track is probably the drum kit. They switch the BPM part way through and keep the track interesting. In the end, that actually adds the most to the track because if gives the track variety and structure.
Overall, this is a barely passable track. The vocals sound bored of this track half the time. It has a length that already makes it difficult to squeeze in something meaningful. The guitars sound OK, though the drums sound pretty good. So, if you miss the track, you won’t be missing much.
