This review covers the trance track RMB – Love Is An Ocean (Stephenson-Rmx).
This track was released in 1995 as part of a single.
The track starts with a kick. A high hat then comes in. An additional percussion then comes in. A synth then comes in. More of the drum kit then builds in. A clap also comes in. A filtered vocal sample comes in. Parts of the track then drops out.
Some choir then comes in. After a while, the choir element is the only thing that is present. After this, the vocals come in. An additional synth then comes in. An additional synth then gradually starts coming in. After that, the track drops out, leaving only the recently introduced synth.
The bassline then comes in. Parts of the drum kit then come in. A snare roll comes in and the rest of the drum kit comes in. Vocals come in along with the synth. The synth melody fades out, then other elements drop out.
What comes in next is just the Main synth melody. The bassline rejoins the track. Parts of the trance drum kit comes in. A snare roll comes in again. The rest of the drum kit comes in. A snare roll comes in again and the vocal elements make a return. The main synth melody drops out, leaving another, less prominent synth to continue the main melody. After a bit, the main synth comes back to continue the main melody. The vocal elements also return. After that, many parts of the track drop out.
This leaves the vocal elements as well as one of the synths. The vocals are what lead the tack out.
One thing I thought was great is the main melody. It’s quite catchy and really carries this track.
Another positive in this track is the vocal elements. Both the short sample and the longer choir-like variations are nicely done. They offset the main synth melody nicely, giving the track that much more to listen to.
The only thing I wasn’t a huge fan of was the intro. Because there is so little going on in the intro, it makes that intro seem long and drawn out. If there were a few more elements applied to it, it wouldn’t be so bad, but this does hold the track somewhat.
Overall, this track is very solid. While the intro does hold this track back somewhat, there are also a lot of great elements going on in here. The main synth melody works great and the vocal elements also offset this melody nicely. The overall flow of this track is nicely thought of and everything comes together nicely. A very solid track all around. A great one once you get past the intro.
