This review covers the rock track Grindstone – Threshold.
This track was released in 1998 on a self-titled album. The track also appears as the title screen track for the N64 game Top Gear Overdrive. We previously reviewed the track Mir on the same album and that got a great score. In addition to this, we also reviewed the track Everything and that track got quite the great score. So, we thought we’d try this track to see if it’s just as good.
The track starts off with guitars to build the track up. This is accompanied by a high hat. After that, the vocals come in with lead guitars and the rest of the drum kit. The vocals come in on a non-lyrical basis. After that, the vocals start the first track verse. The lead guitars hit lower notes.
From there, the vocals take the track into the main chorus. In this section, the lead guitars are hitting slightly higher notes.
After that, the vocals take the track into the next verse. Then, the vocals take the track into the main chorus again. This is capped off with an instrumental section.
In the next section, the vocals take the track into the next verse in a much different manner than the previous verses. What follows is another instrumental section. A guitar solo then comes into the track.
After that, the vocals take the track into the next verse in another unique way, though more similar to the main chorus. After that, the vocals take the track into the main chorus. The vocals then lead the track out.
One thing I do like about the track is that the intro is actually nicely done. That intro really builds the track up nicely.
Another thing I like about the track is that it has a much heavier sound with the lower notes those lead guitars hit. This is heard in the first few verses.
In addition to this, the main chorus is quite catchy. The track almost seems to speed up in a way as the vocals compliment the drum kit quite nicely.
Overall, this is a great track. It has a catchy main chorus and a nice heavy sound in the verses. The intro builds the track up quite nicely. The vocals are great to hear as well. So, a great track all around.
