Review: Rock ‘N Roll Racing (Game Boy Advance)

In this review, we attempt to score a first place knockout in the Game Boy Advance game Rock ‘N Roll Racing. We find out how well this combat racing game plays.

This game was released in 2003 and is a port from the console version.

We previously reviewed the SNES version and found it to be a very solid play. Next up, we tried the Sega Genesis version. that version is also just as solid. So, we thought we’d play this version to see if it’s just as good.

Since this game is pretty much the same as the SNES version, we decided to focus on the differences in this version.

The only difference that we noticed is the fact that you have to reset the game after beating the game. Otherwise, we aren’t aware of any real differences.

Graphically, this game is quite solid. Considering the consoles it was released on earlier, it’s actually impressive just how much was retained in this version. It’s also competing against the likes of Medal of Honor – Infiltrator, Yoshi’s Island – Super Mario Advance 3, and Advance Wars. Comparing it against other handhelds at the time, this game really does hold its own quite well.

The audio, unfortunately, hasn’t changed. While it’s pretty good, the music is also dated. It was dated when it was initially released, but now, it’s that much more dated. The sound effects are decently done. Of course, what helps this game stand out is the volume of voice work in this game. In fact, nothing is really missing from the SNES version. So, that really saves this game. on that front.

Overall, this is a great game. It came out at a very good time and ultimately holds nothing back. The gameplay is solid, the graphics are nice, and the audio is solid as well thanks to well done voice work for the most part. So, a great game all around.

General gameplay: 22/25
