This review covers the alternative rock track Matchbox Twenty – Bent.
This track was released in 2000 on the album Mad Season.
The track starts off with a guitar. The drum kit then comes in. That guitar has a fair number of slide notes.
From there, the vocals come in with the lead guitar dropping out. More acoustic guitar backs the vocals along with a softened drumkit. The vocals then lead the track into the main chorus.
After that, the vocals take the track into the next verse. The vocals then take the track into the main chorus. Some filtered backing vocals make a brief appearance. The track then drops out for a short instrumental section.
From there, the vocals then reappear for a bit. After that, the vocals drop out with the lead sliding note guitars making a return. The vocals return and take the track into the main chorus. This main chorus is extended and even repeated with slightly altered notes. The vocals then drop out and an instrumental takes over. After a bit, the track gradually fades out.
One thing I do like about the track is the fact that the guitars are nicely varied. In fact, although it is largely the guitars that handle the variety throughout, this track doesn’t get very repetitive at all which is a nice accomplishment.
As for the vocals, there are positives and negatives for them. On the one hand, they sound great during the main chorus generally. The overall sound works quite well in fact. My problem is that some of the lyrics get a bit garbled. As a result, it’s hard to understand some of the lyrics. So, some of the meaning does get a bit lost in the mix.
Overall, this track is pretty decent. It’s got a nice variety of guitar work. The vocals work on overall general sound, but do garble the lyrics a bit. Still, it’s not a bad track in general. A decent one all around.
