This review covers the trance track Dirty Vegas – Days Go By (Lucien Foort Remix).
This track was released in 2001 as part of a single. It was released along with the full vocal mix.
The track starts with parts of the drum kit and a few synth effects. An additional synth effect makes an appearance along with a sweep for a moment. After a snare roll, the rest of the drum kit joins the track. Another synth makes an occasional appearance in the track. A vocal sample also makes an appearance with some filtering and a delay effect.
From there, the bassline and an additional synth joins the track. After another snare roll, parts of the drum kit drop out.
After another snare roll, the kick returns with other parts of the drum kit dropping out. The vocals also come in more full for a verse. A snare roll makes an appearance and some synth chords replace the vocals. After another snare roll, the drum kit becomes more full again.
When another snare roll makes an appearance, the vocals continue with another verse. The synth chords continue. A synth string makes an appearance. There’s some additional vocal elements with a liquid crystal type filtering applied to them ducking in and out in the background – likely vocoded. After a round in the main chorus, parts of the drum kit drop out along with the vocals. This leaves the bassline and the kick. An additional synth is present periodically.
From there, a main synth melody joins the track. This synth melody has both a delay and reverberation effect applied to it. The liquid crystal filtered vocals make an appearance again. After a snare roll, this element drops out, leaving some synths, bassline, and the drum kit. A snare roll hits and some of the synths drop out. After a few effects, the bassline drops out. A sweep is then heard after. Another snare roll hits and the snare roll along with a few effects leads the track out.
One thing that is very well realized is the laid back vibe throughout. It really has some heavy house influences throughout.
The vocals work quite well. That filtering really gives it an interesting tweaked sound. That filtering really adds to giving this track a rather unique sound.
My only real issue is that a lot of elements are drawn out a bit. It’s pretty slow to transitions and progresses quite slowly in the process. What elements are there are quite good, but the overall track could have been shortened up a bit to allow the better portions shine better.
Still, this is not a bad track. It’s got a well-realized laid back vibe. Those vocals really do offer a rather unique sound to it. The drawn out nature of the track may not help much, but it’s still a worthwhile track to listen to.
