This review covers the pop music track Robin Thicke – Blurred Lines ft. T.I., Pharrell.
This RIAA pop music track was released in 2013. It is part of the album Blurred Lines.
Having had to hear a few live versions of this song, one of my thoughts was that maybe this is one of those tracks that just doesn’t transition well to the main stage. Maybe the recorded version is actually better than the live versions.
Unfortunately, having now heard the studio recorded version, I quickly discovered that there is very little that I heard that improves the song over the live performances. The beginning tries to go for some sort of R&B style, then there’s some rap elements put in, then there was some pop music thrown in as well. It was as if some studio producer had a checklist and went, “Has rock, check, has rap, check, has R&B, check, objectifies women for some forced controversial element, check”. Then, when it was all mixed down, what you ended up having was a track with an identity crises with very little obvious meaning. I think there was some attempt to make the main singer seem like some sexy cool super model, but the end result was so artificial, you can almost taste the plastic. In some parts of the song, Thicke sounds like he is singing one or two octaves higher than he should be. That, I think, was the worst part of the song because it gives the song that nails on chalkboard feeling.
I almost wonder that for those that listen to this track and say this is an amazing song if these people have even heard good music in the past decade. I have and I can safely say that this track is simply garbage. If I hear it again, it will be against my will. I would be a happy person if I never hear this song ever again.
