This review covers the mainstream pop track Capital Cities – Safe And Sound.
This track was released in 2011 but towards the beginning of 1014 and end of 2013, got more airplay on radio.
It’s essentially a more easy listening track with a lot of electronica elements thrown in.
For me, this track is a case of good news, bad news. The good news is that this is one of the better mainstream tracks I’ve heard in a while. The bad news is the bar for mainstream music is so low, you need to have an excavating expedition to find it.
The track itself starts off half decent, but a part in the middle really gives the whole flow of the track a jarring feeling. I know that, for music production, it’s good to have a nice evolution throughout by changing the track up part way through, but for me, this attempt to accomplish that was a miserable failure. This reduces the usefulness of the track down to chopping out bits and pieces for things like car commercials (which I know this song is in at least one) to make it sound half decent. If it weren’t for the jarring middle part of the track, I would give this one a passing grade, but because of that portion, this track goes below the passing grade for me. In the end, this track is largely forgettable.
