This review covers the rock track Stone Temple Pilots – Between the Lines.
This track was released in 2010 on a self titled album.
This track is definitely one of those tracks that ticks a number of boxes of what a rock track is supposed to be. It has electric guitars, it contains lyrics that can upset uptight parents, and it has a guitar solo in it.
For me, this was one of the numerous tracks that were released in the last 8 or so years that contributed to taking rock music (which was previously doing very well) and making it extremely boring music. In around 2000, it never even entered my mind that rock music could possibly be boring. Fast forward to today, a lot of more modern rock tracks have been incredibly boring to me.
The guitars with the melody are quite generic. There’s nothing really exciting about this element. Having listened to this track, I can’t honestly say what this track is supposed to be about. Maybe I just glazed over them because nothing was really grabbing my attention here. The vocals were, again, nothing special because there was nothing distinct about them. The guitar solo, which is always a goto point in the track for grabbing an audiences attention, didn’t really move me at all. I tried to enjoy it, but I just couldn’t get into it.
In the end, I’ve heard a lot of rock music in the past that I really enjoyed. This was not one of them. I get as much excitement out of going to an art gallery I don’t care about. I yawn, and I can’t wait for the experience to end. With nothing distinct about this track, it’s simply a boring experience. There’s way better out there.
