This review covers the downtempo track Glideascope – What Kind of Madness.
This track was released in 2003 on the With Strings Attached EP.
One interesting element in this track is the blending of orchestral elements into a downtempo track. This definitely gave this track an interesting sound on its own because most tracks I hear that are ambient and downtempo are typically mostly synth sounds. Instead, this track throws in the orchestral elements as an element of creativity. I would say this creativity worked here.
Another easy to hear element is the guy that is criticizing genre he doesn’t really fully understand. I thought this was an interesting element to add. It’s not often this element is added without the track sounding cliche – especially if the artists name is mentioned. In this case, it isn’t a bad element to add to it.
In addition to the above mentioned elements was the use of scratch sounds. While not a major element of the track, I thought it added an interesting texture to the overall feel of the track.
Overall, I thought this was a great track to relax to. It’s something different, but not too strange as to be uncomfortable to the ear. So, I would say it’s a very good track to listen to.
