This review covers the progressive trance track Nic Chagall – What You Need (Original Extended).
This track was released in 2007 as part of a single.
One element of this track is the fact that it ultimately is barely trance music. With the drumkit used combined with the electric guitars, it could very easily fall into the genre of rock. I will say it is trance because of the general four to the floor beat as well as the synths and overall structure, though I do note it is a bit of a stretch to call this trance to begin with.
One big feature of this track is, as mentioned, the guitars. The bass and lead guitars worked very well.
The vocals worked quite well. The way this track was sung worked quite well and melded nicely with the other elements of this track. I thought the vocals also articulated the lyrics nicely.
The lyrics were pretty good. You get that emotional sense of rejection. They don’t exactly push out the emotion right away, but instead, gradually paint an entire picture throughout the track. This made the whole track worth listening to and not just the main chorus. The verses complimented the main chorus very nicely.
The added synth elements added quite a lot to the overall main melody. I thought it helped elevate this track in terms of overall quality.
The general flow worked quite well. Even though this was quite a complex track with many moving parts, I thought it all coalesced surprisingly well.
Overall, this was quite the great track to listen to. It did a bit of genre bending between rock and trance, but still fit within the trance genre. The electric guitars were definitely a highlight. The added synth added a nice touch to elevate the quality of the track. The vocals worked very well with the overall sound and the lyrics were both complex, but very nicely emotional. So, I would say this is definitely a great track to listen to.
