Profits continue to skyrocket for Hollywood’s bottom line as Avatar took in $1 Billion in only 17 days.

How much money can a movie make at the theatres in 17 days? That number can be quite high. For one famous 3D movie, a 17 day trip to the theatre can ring in over $1 billion in revenue. Avatar, according to The Hollywood Reporter, rang in $1.02 Billion in worldwide revenue. That put the movie comfortably for 4th biggest grossing movie of all time.
With profits seemingly expanding as far as the eye can see, it seems increasingly unlikely that Hollywood can say that piracy is killing the movie industry. Of course, that probably won’t halt the secret piracy meetings at the White House. The last time critics pointed out the MPAAs record breaking profits in light of the arguing that they needed further legal protection, they simply said that they had “nothing to apologize for“. No doubt that even if the movie made $10 Billion, the MPAA would still find some odd line of arbitrary or anecdotal reasoning to justify restricting copyright laws further.
One things for sure, this latest news article won’t stop some critics from saying that the MPAA is simply crying all the way to the bank.
