This review covers the alternative rock track Linkin Park – What I’ve Done.
This track was released in 2007. It was released in the album Minutes to Midnight.
The track starts off with some reverse notes, possibly guitar notes. After that, there’s some piano playing. The drumkit is then brought in before the guitars. After that, the track takes a step back before the vocals come in. This is backed by some subtle turntable scratching.
The chorus then comes in backed by electric guitars with a sizable presence. The track ping-pongs from more subtle verses with chorus’ with a big presence. The track contains a climactic ending with the inclusion of the backup vocals. After that, the track fades out with the piano elements being the last to be heard.
The vocals are nicely done. while they don’t necessarily showcase the bands full vocal capabilities, it still works quite well here.
The lyrics paint a picture of personal regret. This band is well known for hitting more emotional themes in the lyrics and this track is certainly no exception. They are certainly written out in a more symbolic and abstract way. This is another thing this band is well known to do. The strength here is that the track can apply to a lot more situations just because of the abstract nature of the lyrics.
The mastering is quite well done. Nothing is really drowned out or overpowering in any real way.
Generally speaking, this is a pretty solid track. It’s got nice abstract vocals that make it more relatable. While the vocals in this track don’t necessarily showcase the bands full vocal capabilities, they work quite well. The overall sound gives the impression of some nice dynamic range throughout. The guitars and other elements are also nicely done. A pretty solid track if you ask me.
