This review covers the euro house track Greenhouse – I Love America / Got A Feeling (New World Groove Mix).
This track was released in 1990 as a single. It was released with the radio mix and the track American Dream.
The track starts with the drum kit along with some synths. There are additional synth strings and audience cheering comes in. Some vocals then come in. Some of the vocals are pitch bent and chopped while there are other more normal vocals.
The track then gets pulled back somewhat as the main vocals take over. There is a brief instrumental section before the main chorus comes in. When the track goes into the next part of the main chorus, a guitar is added.
During the next verse, there is some additional brass elements that come in. It doesn’t take long before the track goes into the next round with the main chorus. This is capped off with a non-lyrical synth section. The guitar does rejoin the track part way through.
Eventually, the vocals come back in another verse. This is somewhat short as the track then goes into the main chorus. The last part of the main chorus repeats as the track then gradually fades out.
What I have to say is that I normally like track with a fair amount going on. If done right, some tracks can be a real audio journey. When done not as well, it can wind up being little more than an audio mess. For this track, it winds up being the latter. Some elements like the “woo” sound are left on auto-pilot for most of the track. Other elements like the brass elements wind up just coming in at points where they just don’t seem to fit. As I work my way through the track, I find myself trying to like this one, but ending up being rather bored of it. Listening to this track a second time, it is more work than entertainment to me.
There is some synth that actually doesn’t sound bad. This is the chord melody that plays throughout the track. The good news is that there isn’t a whole lot to complain about with it in and of itself. The bad news is that it repeats so often without any real variance, that it winds up getting tired and worn by the end of the track.
Finally, the vocals are not that bad. Unfortunately, they are not particularly good either. In spite of the fact that there are multiple voices singing in the lyrical sections, they still somehow end up being a bit flat. This does surprise me a little because tracks don’t normally do this for me. In this case, I’m just not impressed with them.
Overall, this is a pretty flat track. The few elements in here that are great get set to a loop and left on autopilot until all the joy runs out. What’s left after is pretty boring and flat. While the track tries to go for the patriotic side of things, it just becomes a rather forgettable one.
