This review covers the pop track Paula Abdul – The Promise of a New Day.
This track was released in 1991 as a single.
The track starts with a drum kit and a pan flute like instrument. A melody comes in and the vocals come in shortly after. The vocals seem to go straight into the main chorus.
Shortly after, the vocals take the track into the next verse. From there, the track then goes straight into the main chorus.
The track then goes into an instrumental section. After that, the vocals take the track into the next verse. The vocals then take the track straight into the next round of the main chorus.
At this point, the track pulls back somewhat as the backup vocals come in. After this, the vocals go straight back into the main chorus again. The main chorus repeats, then the track goes out with a synth and an effect.
One thing this track gets right is getting a rather upbeat and optimistic mood. This is especially true throughout the main chorus.
It is hard to tell, but the verses are definitely sufficient to carry the track through. The problem is the fact that there are very few transitions. There is maybe one instrumental section which makes certain sections a bit more distinct. Beyond that, any sense of transition is non-existent. As a result, the track ends up being a bit hard to follow. It’s a similar effect to someone saying things really quickly without a breath. While you may get every syllable perfect, you end up missing bits and pieces because it’s hard to follow.
Overall, this is a pretty decent track. It does present a nice upbeat and optimistic mood. The problem is that there is a lack of almost any transitions which makes the track harder to follow along. Still, in spite of this issue, it is a pretty decent track all around.
