This review covers the rock track Peter Gabriel – Digging in the Dirt.
This track was released in 1992 on the album Us.
The track starts with some guitar elements. A drum kit then comes in. From there, the vocals come in with a verse.
An additional guitar signals the beginning of the main chorus. What is interesting is the fact the name of the track appears on the back portion of the main chorus.
After the track pulls back somewhat with some general guitar elements, the next verse comes in.
It doesn’t take long before the main chorus comes in. The end of the chorus is repeated somewhat altered with the backup vocals coming in. After some guitars, the latter part of the main chorus repeats again. After that, the track then fades out.
For the record, the themes in this track’s lyrics make me uncomfortable. However, whether or not I agree with the themes portrayed in a track doesn’t actually affect the score.
The lyrics don’t have a lot of verses in them. What verses are there are very short and few in numbers. As a result, the lyrics rely very heavily on the main chorus repeating over and over again. As a result, there isn’t much in variety here.
While the bass guitar does give the track warmth, the other guitars really don’t make this track stand out. What makes it even worse is a general lack of a guitar solo. As a result, the track ends up being a bit bland.
Overall, this track really doesn’t offer a whole lot. The lyrics are a bit skimpy and the guitar elements really don’t make this track particularly distinct in any way. As a result, the track is pretty bland. The bass guitar isn’t bad. Overall, not really a track worth listening to.
