This review covers the punk rock track Rancid – I’m Not the Only One.
This track was released in 1992 as part of an E.P.
The track starts off with some guitars with a dash of feedback. From there, the vocals come in for the first verse.
Shortly after this, the main chorus comes in. This section is capped off with a rather short instrumental section.
From there, the vocals take the track into the next verse. This, however, is rather short as the vocals then take the track back into the main chorus. That is capped off with some slower speaking elements. From there, there is an instrumental section.
After this, the vocals then take the track into another round into the main chorus. The tempo then slows down as the track then goes into an instrumental section. After that, the track then ends.
One thing I do like about this track is the main chorus. It features some nice strong emotion, great vocals, and nicely done lyrics. Everything about the track does come together quite well in these sections.
The problem with this track is when the track hits the verses. Half the time, the vocals actually get drowned out by the guitars in the track. As a result, the lyrics get quite difficult to understand at times.
Still, the guitar work, despite the somewhat filtered nature that I heard, actually sounds pretty good. The peaker effect (which basically causes that stuttered muting you hear in one of those instrumental sections) gave the guitar a nicely done effect. It actually breaks down the section nicely before the track leads into another section.
Overall, this is one of those tracks with its strengths and weaknesses. It features a nice peaker effect, great main chorus, and well done guitars throughout. The vocals during the verses does tend to get drowned out by the guitars unfortunately. Still, it’s a pretty decent track all around.
