This review covers the rock track Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers – Mary Jane’s Last Dance.
This track was released in 1993 as a single.
The track starts with some guitars. A drum kit then comes in. After that, the vocals then come in for a first verse. A harmonica then comes in before the vocals continue with the verse.
After a brief instrumental section, the vocals then take the track into the first verse. This section is capped off with an instrumental section dominated by a harmonica.
From there, the vocals take the track into the next verse. After that, the vocals take the track straight into the next round of the main chorus. This is capped off with an instrumental section with mostly guitars.
After that, the vocals take the track into the next verse. The vocals then take the track straight into the main chorus again. This section is capped off with another instrumental harmonica section. The guitars make a bigger presence this time around, though. The guitars then take over and the track fades out.
This is one of those tracks where it’s hard to pick up anything that’s really interesting. The vocals wind up being pretty average. While the harmonica does add something different to listen to, it isn’t anything amazing either. The guitars are OK, but nothing special. Probably the best aspect of the track is the fact that the instrumental sections are at least evolving throughout the track.
Overall, this is a very average track. It’s got vocals that are OK and a harmonica that adds a bit of variety to the track. The guitars are OK. While it is nice to hear an evolving instrumental section, that only marginally adds to the tracks quality. So, an overall very average one.
