Welcome to the 172nd instalment of our first impression video series. Today, we are playing the Xbox One game, Rayman Legends for the first time. You can check out the video directly on YouTube or in the embed below:
One video game franchise I was always curious about playing was the main Rayman series. While I haven’t really played all of the titles in the franchise, I feel like I did manage to at least do this franchise some justice by playing a couple of the titles. Rayman Legends, as of this recording, is the last major instalment to this franchise, so it was always going to be interesting to me to see how this franchise ended (at least for now).
Considering Rayman has experienced life as a full 3D adventure, it was always a curious thing to me that the developers decided to revert back to a 2D style. Was it just going back to what they were familiar with more than anything else? Who knows? Still, the fact that this was the last game in the franchise doesn’t seem to have bode well for the series as a whole. While playing the previous title didn’t exactly inspire confidence despite the great artistic style of the game, I was at least hoping that the series (for now) ended on a stronger note.
At the very least, my first few minutes of playing made it feel like a rather familiar title. This can be both good and bad. It can be good because the developers are tapped into a sense of familiarity. It can be bad because it’s possible the developers might be repeating the same mistakes as the previous title. I have yet to figure out which way it is here.
So, I wanted to hear from you. What did you think of this game? Was this a great title that nicely sends of this franchise or did you think this series ended with a whimper?
For those who haven’t played this game, but others in the franchise, what did you think of what you saw? Does this look like an interesting instalment to the franchise that you simply hadn’t gotten to or does this look more like a “been there, done that” title to you?
Also, for those who haven’t played this series at all, what did you think of this footage? Does this look like a game you’d be interested in playing or does this look like a game that has an excessively dated feel to you? Let us know in the comments below!
