Review: 3 Doors Down – When I’m Gone (Rock)

This review covers the alternative rock track 3 doors Down – When I’m Gone.

This track was released in 2002 on the album Away From the Sun.

The track starts off with a more acoustic sounding guitar. A second guitar is present as well. The drum kit then starts in as the vocals join the track for a verse. An instrumental section hits for a moment part way through.

After another brief instrumental section, the track goes into the main chorus. Lead guitars join the track in the process.

Gradually, the lead guitars fade out as the vocals take the track into the next verse. Another guitar makes an appearance here part way through. The vocals then take the track into the main chorus. The main vocals during the main chorus is backed by backup vocals. An instrumental section caps off the main chorus.

From there, the lead guitars gradually fade out for a moment. After a brief vocal, the lead guitars re-join the track for an instrumental section. The lead vocals return, taking the track back into the main chorus again. The main chorus is extended for a bit. The vocals and guitars then lead the track out.

One thing about this track is the fact that some of the transitions really don’t exist. There are a few that do, but you can almost hear some of the corners being cut during the production process.

The overall sound is OK, but it doesn’t exactly jump out at me as being anything amazing. There are two ways that can make for a great track: something that sound highly energetic and something that is amazingly emotional. I don’t really see this track really falling into either category here. So, there might be a third way I’m not thinking of at the moment, but nothing really comes to me even while listening to this.

Overall, this track is a fairly bland and boring track. Some transitions sound like they are missing. While no one element stands out at being particularly bad, nothing really stands out as being particularly good either. So, a largely forgettable track in my opinion.
