Review: Body-Shock – Mars – Plastic (Trance)

This review covers the trance track Body-Shock – Mars – Plastic.

This track was released in 2001 as part of an EP.

The track starts with a kick and a bassline. Some filtering is then taken off. A clap joins the track. A high hat joins the track along with a percussion. The percussion is subtle and has a reverb effect applied to it. Another percussion then fades in slightly. Some synth chords join the track.

There is a brief pause and the two percussion elements drop out. The rest of the track continues. Reverb is added. Another synth fades in gradually. A snare joins the track. Parts of the drum kit briefly drop out before a high hat joins the track. A synth melody then fades in. The synth melody has a reverb effect added to it. After some added kicks and cymbals, the track hits the drop.

The synth melody is all that’s left. An added effect is layered in. The synth melody fades back in somewhat. The kick then rejoins the track. A secondary synth fades in. The snare also returns. Some high hats return. After a drill of the kick along with added cymbals, the rest of the drum kit fills out. A synth is added as well. The kick goes through a roll again before the main synth melody drops out.

The rest of the track continues. One of the remaining synths then pulls back a little. Other elements drop out as a few cymbal crashes make appearances. Parts of the drum kit also drop out. A reverse cymbal with a delay effect then leads the track out.

A good feature is definitely the synth melody. It adds a nice higher range element to an otherwise rather techy track. While it sounds good on its own, combined with everything else, there is a certain power to the overall sound that works quite well.

A problem with this track is that it could have used more melodic and progressive elements to really elevate the track. As it stands now, it’s a good track, but I don’t really hear anything that would make me say, “Hey, it’s a great track.”

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good track to listen to. I’m just not sure how necessarily memorable it will be given what is in this track. The main melody works quite well and when every element is layered in, the overall sound is nicely done. Just wanted to hear something a little more in order to get particularly excited for this track is all.

Score
7/10
