This review covers the nu metal track Disturbed – Liberate.
This track was released in 2002 on the album Believe.
The track starts with a chopped voice sample. After that, the drum kit and lead guitars join the track. The vocals then join the track shortly after. The guitars hit shorter notes after the vocals join the track. From there, the voice sample returns in a non-chopped fashion.
After that, the track goes into the main chorus. From there, the vocals take the track into the next verse. After that, the voice sample returns before the track is led into the main chorus again. This section is capped off with a guitar solo. The voice sample makes a return, though it says something different.
The main vocals then make a return, but the guitars are held back. Part way through, the lead guitars return in full. This is capped off with a partial instrumental section. The drum kit and lead guitars then lead the track out.
For me, this is a pretty decent track. I think the vocals sound quite good. I’m not entirely sure what is done with the voice sample part, but it does add a nice variety to the overall track. It’s definitely something different to hear (at least, in my experience).
The guitars sound pretty good. They do help emphasize certain parts of the track nicely. So, no real complaints about them.
I think the only thing that could help improve things is maybe adding some more dynamic range. It all sounds like almost the whole track is at one level. So, there is that sense of sameness throughout, but it’s small.
Overall, I think it’s a solid track. It’s got good vocals and good guitar work. There may not be a solid amount of dynamic range, but it is otherwise a worthwhile track to listen to.
