This review covers the progressive trance track Exolight & Suncatcher – I’m Always Happy When It’s Raining (Original Mix).
This track was released in 2019 as a single.
The track starts off with a synth being faded in. The kick comes in with a sliding synth note. An additional synth effect makes an appearance. The kick drops out for a second before it comes back, joined by an additional synth. A bass note hits before a slow snare roll makes an appearance.
From there, after a sweep, some synth strings fade in with a slight side-chain effect. A vocal sample makes an appearance. After a bit, the vocal sample makes an additional appearance.
From there, elements start pulling back as a piano element begins to take over. The drop gradually fades the track out. The piano is backed by some sweeps. That pad and synth string makes an appearance.
After that, the piano drops out and the main synth melody makes an appearance. Those synth pads and strings gradually fade in as the release of the main synth gradually gets extended. A choice element makes an appearance. A snare roll comes in with an additional sweep.
At that point, the drum kit returns and the main synth melody takes over. This main portion of the track plays out from there. A reverse cymbal makes an appearance and those voice samples make additional appearances. The drum kit then drops out as the rest of the track gradually pulls back.
Then, the drum kit returns and some of the synths play out. The voice sample also continues to appear. A sweep then makes an appearance as the track starts the breakdown process. A synth effect makes a subtle appearance. After a sweep and reverse cymbal, more synths drop out. Then, the drum kit gradually drops out with more and more filtering aiding the fade out. The track is then lead out by a synth effect.
One thing I really like about the track is that almost euphoric sound throughout. This was extremely well realized here.
The piano was a real highlight here. It really brought out that uplifting feeling.
Compounding the quality is the main synth melody. This really aids the point of takeoff for this track.
The other elements really gave this track flow. The strings and sweeps really helped carry the track nicely. That vocal sample that makes occasional appearances really added that extra bit of audible spice throughout.
My only complaint is that the main portion of the track isn’t quite long enough for my taste. There’s so much going for it and there was a real opportunity to push the track length, but for whatever reason, that opportunity simply wasn’t taken.
Still, this is quite the great track. It really has everything you want in an uplifting track. It has emotional piano and high energy synth melodies. There are layers of quality that gives this track a nice flow throughout. I wish it was longer, really. Overall, a great track that I definitely recommend.
