Review: Jesus Jones – The Next Big Thing (Rock)

This review covers the alternative rock track Jesus Jones – The Next Big Thing.

This track was released in 1997 on the album Already.

The track starts off with some guitars. Non-lyrical vocals come in along with some synth elements. After that, the vocals take the track into the main chorus straight away. This ends with a short instrumental section.

After that, the vocals take the track into the first verse. This ends with some synth elements.

From there, the vocals take the track into the next round of the main chorus. An instrumental section follows this.

Curiously, the vocals take the track into the first verse again. The guitars rejoin the track. Like before, some synth elements separate the verse and the main chorus.

From there, the track pulls back, leaving the vocals, some non-lyrical vocals, and a few synth elements. After a sweeping synth element, the vocals take the track into the next round of the main chorus. This main chorus repeats with some slight alterations with the backup vocals.

The guitars then come in and the vocals lead the track out.

As a whole, the track sounds quite good. The mixture of rock blended with some subtle synths does give this track a refreshing sound. The backup vocals also sounds pretty good.

For me, though, the problem with this track is that it’s almost entirely just one verse and one main chorus repeating. The simplification of the lyrics to this extent does stunt the variety in the track. As a result, the longevity of the track is compromised to a small degree.

Still, this is a pretty good track. It has a nice variety of sounds mixed down into a decent rock track. The vocals sound quite nice and the overall sound works quite well. The excessively simple lyrics, however, does hurt the overall quality of the track. So, a pretty decent track overall in spite of that flaw.
