This review covers the liquid drum n bass track Laroque – Visitations.
This track was released in 2005 on the compilation album Weapons of Mass Creation Two.
This track starts off quite intriguing. It is actually ambient mixed of a sort of blues vibe to it. It did a great job at selling me the rest of the track because I was expecting something really neat to listen to.
The drum n bass elements then kick in and I found myself thinking that the track is still building up to something interesting. Unfortunately, the track ends up being rather repetitive and is a mix of that bass and the vocals heard in the beginning. For a track that was over 7 minutes long, I was personally expecting a little more variety in the main melody.
I will say, though, the ambient effects were very well done. I liked the effects it added to this track. The vocals were interesting and added great dimension to this track. The percussion’s throughout the track were also everything I would expect in a great drum n bass track. I didn’t think there was anything wrong with them.
Overall, there was a lot going for this track, but the main melody left a lot to be desired – especially for a track of this length. Good all around, but could have been better in my opinion.
