This review covers the acid house track Le Mystere – Opus 303.
This track was released in 1990 as part of an EP. It was released with the tracks Prïtourïtze Planinata and O.T.B.
The track starts with a bassline and a synth pad. A brief snare roll takes the track into a house-like beat with a bit of a breakbeat influence. Some sliding synths carry the track over to a 303 synth melody. This melody is joined with a secondary 303 synth melody. An additional melody briefly joins in before the track goes into the next section.
In the next section, the sliding synth makes a return along with a second sliding synth melody. After this, a string synth melody takes over along with a filtered drum kit. After this, the melody fades out and the bassline simply goes it alone for a moment. The sliding synth melody makes a return before the 303 melodies make an additional appearance.
The sliding synth melody returns along with the secondary sliding synth melody. This is followed by the string synth melody. The track then briefly pulls back before both the string synths and 303 melodies layer together. After this, the track gradually fades out.
One thing I do like about this track is that the bassline has such a covert feel to it. It gives the track a very well done darker mood. In addition to this, it also gives the track a somewhat relaxed sound at the same time. It works quite well.
The 303 synth melodies gives this track a nice crisp sound. The resonance almost crackles a bit because of the filters applied. It’s quite distinct and is, again, something that works in the tracks favour.
Finally, the string synth melodies does a great job at breaking the track up a bit. It allows for the track to have a degree of variety. When everything is layered all at once at the end, I think that is a great way to lead the track out.
Generally speaking, this is a pretty good track. The mood expressed through the synths and bassline is very well done. The relaxed, yet covert sounds really gives this track a nice personality. The 303 synths helps drive the track and the string synths breaks things up nicely. An overall very solid track.
