Review: Liam Shacher – Worlds Apart (Nüw Idol Tribal Mix) (Trance)

This review covers the trance track Liam Shacher – Worlds Apart (Nüw Idol Tribal Mix).

This track was released in 2001. It was released along with the original mix.

The track starts with a kick and a filtered element. A subtle synth is also present here. A sweep-like synth makes an appearance. Another filtered white noise element makes an appearance. After that, a bassline makes an appearance along with an effect. A clap also joins the track. When the sweep element returns, a high hat joins the track. Another high hat also joins the track.

A synth with no release joins the track. Another synth effect makes an appearance. A synth melody gradually starts to fade in. A choir-like vocal makes an appearance. The drum kit then drops out as the vocal starts becoming lyrical. After a short period, the drum it returns and the synths take over. The vocal drops out.

A very slow snare roll then makes an appearance. The vocals then become non-lyrical again. After the kick hits a drill moment, most of the track drops out. This leaves a synth. An effect makes an appearance, then a piano joins the track. A synth pad is also backing the track as the vocals join the track in a lyrical manner. The drum kit then returns.

From there, the short synth continues as the pad makes a return. The vocals then drop out and a synth effect punctuates the end of that section. Another synth effect makes an appearance as the short synths continue to carry the track. The synth pad makes a return again. The non-lyrical vocal elements return as well. A synth melody plays out in the background.

A cymbal crash then makes an appearance as parts of the drum it drops out. A snare roll then makes an appearance and the vocals drop out again. The short synth is also gone and is replaced by another synth. A cymbal crash makes another appearance and a few parts drop out. After a bit, everything drops out and the track leads out with a synth effect.

For me, the first thing I notice with this track is that it has a good build-up. Short synths and gradually fading in synth melodies work quite well. The additional layering involved and how its presented works quite well.

The next thing I notice is that the vocals have both lyrical and non0lyrical elements. This actually works out quite well. The only problem is that the way this is mixed, the lyrics get a bit lost in there. The reverb, I think, played a roll in this.

Unfortunately, this is one of those tracks that build up quite well, but don’t lead to much after. As a result, it has a rather anti-climactic feel to it which leaves me a bit disappointed. Everything is there to bring the track up to a good point where I’m ready for something interesting, and then there’s nothing much to hear after.

Overall, it’s an OK track. It’s got an interesting vocal and has good build up. Unfortunately, there’s nothing to bring the track into a good climax. It’s got a good atmospheric vibe to it, but otherwise, it’s not one of those tracks that I would consider particularly memorable.
