Review: Lost Witness – Did I Dream (Song Of The Siren) (DJ Tiesto Remix) (Trance)

This review covers the trance track Lost Witness – Did I Dream (Song Of The Siren) (DJ Tiesto Remix).

This track was released in 2002 along with three other versions.

The track starts with a synth pad. This continues for a bit. A high hat then makes an appearance and the drum kit follows suit. The pad drops out and is replaced by a bassline. A synth effect with a slight phaser effect then joins the track. A second synth effect makes a brief appearance. After another appearance of that effect, the synth effects drop out altogether.

After another appearance of the synth effect, a synth pad makes a subtle appearance. The drum kit then drops out and the vocals join the track for a verse. This is backed by a pad and a synth bassline, though both are held back by quite a bit. The kick then joins the track and the bassline is brought forward again. High hats rejoin the track as the vocals take the track into the main chorus. Everything then drops out with the synth effect fading away.

From there, the synth effects and drum kit return. The vocals have already dropped out for a moment. The synth effects drop out and the vocals return backed by a new synth melody. Those vocals are taking the track into the main chorus again.

After a kick, the vocals and drum kit drop out. The last synths gradually fade away. After that, the vocals return for another round in the main chorus, backed by a synth pad. The synth melody then takes over along with a snare roll. The synth effects then return. That snare roll then drops out and the synth melody continues along with the drum kit and bassline.

From there, the synth melody drops out and the main vocals repeat the main chorus again. The secondary synth melody also plays out as well. At the end of the main chorus, the main synth melody then continues. The main synth melody then alters and small parts of the track start to drop out. Other small parts of the track drop out after a synth effect. The synth melodies then drop out completely, leaving the drum kit and bassline. That synth effect then leads the track out.

One word really does stand out to me while listening to this track: “pleasant”. The vocals are quite nice and the synth melodies that back them are also quite nice. Everything in this track has some nice cohesion and is structured quite nicely.

If you were expecting something with some higher levels of energy, though, you’ll be in for a disappointment. This one never really hits the gas and goes for greatness. Instead, it’s just there providing some nice ambience and an overall sound.

Still, that’s not to say this is a bad track by any means. In fact, there is a lot that is good about this track. It ha good vocals, good melodies, and an overall good construction from beginning to end. So, I’ll give this one a thumbs up and call it a solid worthwhile track to listen to.

Score
7/10
