This review covers the trance track M-Diva – Reachin’ Out (Original Club Mix).
This track was released in 2002 along with an instrumental version.
The track starts with a kick and a synth. This is joined by a synth effect. High hats join the track. After a kick boom effect, another subtle synth joins the track. From there, the bassline joins the track. A synth pad then joins the track that also serves as a melody. The main synth melody then joins the track. The drum kit then briefly drops out and then comes back more full. Another effect also makes an occasional appearance.
After a reverse cymbal, parts of the drum kit drop out. Another symbol crash and the main synth melody starts to fade out. After another synth effect, the bassline is about all that is left. A sweep then enters the track and the synth pad returns. Some effects make brief appearances. Then, the vocals join the track for a verse. The vocals have a reverberation effect applied to them.
The bassline then re-joins the track as the vocals continue. A reverse symbol makes an appearance and some filtering is gradually pulled out. Thus turns the bassline into the main synth melody. The true bassline then joins the track. After a brief drop out, the vocals return for the main chorus. This is capped off with a section of the main synth melodies continuing on with some added effects.
A reverse symbol makes an appearance and the main synth melodies drop out. The vocals rejoin the track for the next verse. A reverse symbol makes another appearance and the drum kit drops out. The main melody then returns with the filtering like last time. The vocals then take the track into the main chorus. During this, the filtering gradually gets pulled off. The rest of the elements rejoin and the track hits another instrumental section.
From there, the main vocals repeat a line in the main chorus as the melodies become simplified. A symbol crash makes an appearance and parts of the drum kit drop out. A reverse symbol then makes an appearance and the rest of the track drops out, leaving just the high hat to lead the track out.
One thing that is definitely noticeable about the track for me is the way the track builds things up. I really like how the main melody, with the filtering, almost serves as a bassline. Then, when the filtering gets pulled back, the melody then becomes the main melody with another bassline joining in. I thought that was a clever use of the main melody.
A second thing I like is the vocals. They really do sound great and the lyrics are pretty well done as well. They really help give the track that nice finished polished sound.
Also, the main melody works quite well. It doesn’t wear out its welcome in any way and just propels the track nicely throughout.
Generally speaking, there is some nice creativity to be found in the track. This is especially so with the main synth also doubling as a bassline. The vocals sound very nice. Also, the main melodies themselves work quite well. All in all, a very solid track worth listening to. A definite recommendation in my view.
