This review covers the trance track Miss Shiva – Dreams (Humate Remix).
This track was released in 2001 as a single. It was released along with the original mix and Cosmic Gate remix.
The track start with a synth effect. A drum kit then takes over. A synth then starts to fade in. An effect makes a brief appearance before leading into another. An additional percussion and high hat is added. Another effect is added for a moment. A brief choir element then makes an appearance and the drum kit fills out a bit more. Another effect makes an appearance.
The drum kit then drops out briefly before returning. A clap is added during a sweep. A boom makes an appearance before parts of the drum kit drops out. Fading in is a synth element. More of the drum kit drops out. A sweep then makes an appearance. An effect and brief voice sample makes an appearance. The drum kit then returns for the most part. Another synth joins the track with filtering applied. This filtering is automated and adjusting constantly.
A choir element then begins to fade in. An effect also makes another appearance. There is a drill in the kick before the drumkit drops out completely. A few synth effects and the choir element remains. After a boom, a slow synth melody then makes an appearance. A synth pad also joins the track. That synth pad also more or less serves as a bassline as well. The choir element then fades out. A sweep makes an appearance before most elements drop out.
Another synth takes over, backed by a subtle filtered white noise element. The white noise drops out. A brief voice sample makes an appearance before the synth takes over. The drum kit also returns. Some filtering makes a brief appearance with the drum kit also dropping out briefly. The filtering is then taken off and the drum kit continues. A second synth melody is layered over top, adding an additional texture to the first synth. The kick then hits a drill moment before the drum kit drops out.
The synth then drops out and the choir element returns. A voice sample makes an appearance. The drum kit then makes a return with the choir element dropping out. The main synth melody drops out and all that’s left is the drum kit and a synth element. A synth effect makes an appearance and the synth element fades out. A sweep makes a brief appearance as parts of the drum kit have dropped out. Another synth effect makes an appearance and that leads the track out.
One thing this track has going for it is that it has some good variety throughout. There is plenty of layers throughout the track that is nicely produced. The way they are added and taken off works quite well.
Another positive is the use of the choir element. This adds a nice sound throughout. The voice sample also adds a bit of variety to the track.
The problem is that the synth melody is only OK. It’s nothing huge, though the automation works quite well with it. As such, there isn’t much in the way of defining features in this track, so it’s hard to call this track memorable.
Overall, this is an OK track. It has nicely done variations throughout and the choir element works quite well. Unfortunately, nothing really stands out to make this track an exceptional one by any means. Interesting to listen to, but not something I would listen to over and over again personally.
