This review covers the rock track Pearl Jam – I Am Mine.
This track was released in 2002 on the album Riot Act.
The track starts with a guitar. A second guitar makes appearances as well. A high hat joins the track. The bass guitar and drum kit then join the track. The main vocals join the track for a verse.
After a short instrumental section, the vocals take the track into the main chorus. This is capped off with an instrumental section.
After a snare roll, the vocals return for another verse. A short instrumental section then follows. The vocals then take the track into the main chorus. This is capped off with another instrumental section.
The vocals then continue with a verse (?). This is capped off with a guitar solo. The guitar then leads the track out.
For me, the first thing I notice is that the vocals are quite garbled. A large portion of the track is more or less incomprehensible. So, a lot of meaning is pretty much lost from the get go.
The guitar work is pretty decent, though a bit flat. They really have that sense of just being there because they have to. The guitar solo is a minor exception to this as it does try to liven the track up a bit. Unfortunately, the attempt is weak in my view.
Overall, this is a pretty flat and boring track. The vocals are garbled and largely incomprehensible. A plus side is that the guitar solo does attempt to liven this otherwise sleepy track up, but it is by no means enough to save this one. So, a barely passable track in my view.
