This review covers the trance track Starecase – Navigator.
This track was released in 2001 as part of a single. It was released along with the track Hopeless (Ariane Mix).
The track starts with some filtered chord synths. The kick then joins the track along with some high hats. An additional high hat joins the track. A filtered clap joins the track. Some filtered white noise makes a brief appearance. Another high hat joins the track. After a filtered kick, the drum kit drops out, leaving a few synth effects to take over.
A filtered percussion then joins the track. The drum kit then returns. An additional synth joins the track along with a bassline. Some added synth effects make the occasional appearances. Some high hats rejoin the track. After a bit, the rest of the drum kit rejoins the track. A brief drop hits, then a reverse kick brings the track back. Some synths are swapped out.
Some additional synths rejoin the track. Automation is applied on one of those synths. After a filtered kick, the track drops out, leaving a few synths and effects. A bassy synth makes a subtle appearance. A high hat rejoins the track. A synth effect makes an appearance. Then, the reverse kick makes an appearance before the track largely returns. Some added high hats join the track after a bit.
Another reverse kick makes an appearance before some of the synths drop out. A few elements including some of the high hats then drop out. After a few added kicks, the kick then drops out. The rest of the drum kit follows suit, leaving a few synths. One of the remaining synths then leads the track out.
One thing I do like about this track is a strong arrangement. The way different elements move in and out of the track is actually quite impressive. Considering there isn’t much in the way of really progressive elements, the use of those elements gives this track an overall sense of progression.
Beyond that, it’s hard to really comment on this one as there isn’t a whole lot specifically that stands out with this one.
Overall, it’s a very solid track. The arrangement is quite strong and gives an overarching nice sound of progression. Nothing much else does stand out with this track, but it’s definitely a pretty solid track to listen to anyway.
