This review covers the punk rock track Sum 41 – Still Waiting.
This track was released in 2002. We previously reviewed the track The Hell Song and found it to be a great track. So, we thought we’d give this track a listen to see if we find it just as good.
The track starts with a guitar and the main vocals going through part of the main chorus. right after, the drum kit and rest of the guitars come in. The vocals then go through a verse. After a snare roll, the vocals take the track into the main chorus. This is capped off with an instrumental.
After this, the vocals take the track into the next verse. The vocals lead the track into the next main chorus. After that, the vocals take the track into the bridge. This leads into a longer instrumental. This is capped off with a short vocal. The vocals then lead the track into the main chorus which is extended.
The first thing I notice with this track is the guitar work. In the beginning of the track, there is a nice quieter portion followed up by everything coming together to get some solid energy. So, there is definitely some range in this track from an instrumental perspective. The only thing, and this is a minor thing to me in this track, is that maybe the guitars could have maintained a dynamic volume range throughout. While there is variety, it’s at a very constant level which lessens that dynamic sound.
The vocals are great in this track. Both the main and backup vocals work very well. Not only do they have variety individually, but they also have variety when interacting with each other. Again, the only problem is that they seem to hit the same volume a bit too consistently which does take away some of the replayability of the track.
Overall, this is a very solid track. It’s got some great variety throughout both in the vocals and guitar work. The only problem is that it’s at a really consistent volume which does take away from the quality a little bit. Still, it’s definitely a track I would recommend listening to.
