Review: Svenson & Gielen – We Know What You Did… (Original Mix) (Trance)

This review covers the trance track Svenson & Gielen – We Know What You Did… (Original Mix).

This track was released in 2002 along with three other versions.

The track starts with a standard simple drum kit. A clap layered with a snare joins the track. The clap element then does a solo stutter for a moment before the track continues. A synth then joins the track. A bassline then joins the track.

The drum kit then drops out, leaving only a synth. A second synth joins the track. After that, the drum kit returns and is joined by a third synth that serves as a pad. Another synth then joins the track. A snare roll then makes an appearance, ending with a cymbal crash.

The track drops out, leaving only two synths. After an effect makes an appearance, a symphonic string element takes over. This is backed by the occasional synth. Other synth melodies then take over with the string element dropping out. A snare roll makes an appearance layered with a synth effect. After that, the drum kit returns as the synth melodies continue. The string elements then return to make periodic appearances.

From there, the track then pulls back, leaving a couple of general synths and parts of the drum kit. Other synths then join the track, one being a new one. The pad-like synth makes a return of course. Another synth effect joins the track to make occasional appearances. A cymbal crash makes an appearance and the track drops out.

After that, the string elements takes over. This is backed by occasional synths. Again, the synth melodies then take over with the strings dropping out. A snare roll makes an appearance and the drum kit then rejoins the track. Other synths rejoin the track. The string element then joins the track as well.

From there, the drum kit drops out for the most part. After an effect, the drum kit returns and the synth melodies drop out. The clap has a stutter effect and the synths gradually fade out. A synth effect and drum kit is all that remains. After another stutter effect with the clap, the track is lead out by the synth effect.

One thing I like about this track is the symphonic string elements added to it. This really gives the track a nice live feel to it. It also helps to make this track stand out a bit. So, that gets a thumbs up.

The synth melodies are decent. They help round the track out pretty well, though I’m not sure I would consider them overly exciting.

Still, I’d call this a decent track all around. It’s got a good flow and the string element really gives it a nice edge. The synth melodies are OK, but nothing amazing. So, a decent all around track.

Score
7/10
