This review covers the progressive trance track Vengeance – Song To The Siren (Original Mix).
This track was released in 2001 and was released along with the Prada mix.
The track starts with parts of a drum kit, bassline and an effect. A second synth effect fades in along with a high hat. A vocal sample makes an occasional appearance. Another synth joins the track to provide rhythm.
The drum kit then drop out and the synth and voice sample continues. A 303 synth also plays out as well. Some synths drop out as the vocals hit a verse. A synth effect makes an appearance. The drum kit then returns as the vocals continue. The bassline then starts to vary.
From there, the drum kit drops out again. A synth pad joins the track. The vocals then drop out as some other synths take over. After a snare roll, the vocals continue. After another snare roll, the vocals drop out to just being an occasional voice sample.
After that, the drum kit drops out. A cymbal crash makes an appearance and the synths take over for the most part. After a bit, the kick and bassline returns. The vocals then continue. The drum kit then drop out again. Those vocals are largely backed by the synth pads. After a synth effect, the synth melody returns. The vocals then make brief returns, more or less layering with the synth melody.
A snare roll then makes an appearance and the synth melody and vocals drop out. Vocal samples continue on. Parts of the track including the bassline drop out. A boom (heavily reverbed kick) makes an appearance and a water sample leads the track out.
Probably the best part about the track is the vocals. They really add a lot of personality to the track. There could have been a bit more enunciation in the lyrics, but that’s a minor quibble of mine.
The synth pads add quite a lot of nice textures throughout. They really give this track a nice ambience throughout.
Meanwhile, the other synths, while they do add rhythm, I’m not sure they add much in the way of melody. They are not devoid of melody, but I think it could have been better.
Still, this is a very solid track worth listening to. It’s got solid vocals and great atmosphere thanks to the synth pads. While there could have been more melody in there, I think it’s an overall solid worthwhile track to listen to.
