This review covers the progressive trance track ZYON – No Fate (Struggle Continous Mix).
This track was released in 1992 as part of a single.
The track starts off with a long voice sample. This is backed by a synth pad. A subtle synth melody then comes in. From there, the main piano lead comes in that reflects the subtle synth melody. A drum kit then becomes gradually more present. A 303 synth then comes in. From there, a clap element also joins in.
The track then breaks down as a part of the voice sample is repeated and slowed down. Some additional synth pads come in. The track then breaks down somewhat with a general synth effect playing out. Some elements gradually disappear in this section.
In the next section, the piano element makes a return as more elements fade away. Several elements then make a return. An additional synth effect is introduced. A few elements then drop out again, but leaving that additional synth effect to pop in and out.
Several more elements then drop out, leaving largely just the piano and the synth effect. The pads then make a return as the synth effect goes away. After that, the piano is all that’s left and it slows down to a stop.
One thing that is great about the track is that it is very emotional. It’s kind of depressing in a way, but the raw emotion is quite prominent. So, that gets a big thumbs up from me because the emotion is so well crafted.
The piano lead is very well made. It really helps convey the emotions beyond the voice sample. While the voice sample helps skew the emotion, the piano really drives that emotion. So, a very well done thing here.
The synth pads also help give the track a nice sense of progression. The way the track pulls back and forth also gives a nice sense of progression as well, but the synths really do help things along.
So, overall, this is a great track. It’s got a well placed voice sample and great piano work to convey the emotions. The synth pads and other techniques really help give this track a sense of progression. So, I would say that this is a great track overall.
