I remember this one having an interesting back story for how I ended up getting to this game in the review process. I remember playing several other Zelda games and really enjoying them. Whether that was the 2 NES titles, the SNES entry, or the two N64 entries, the games I played were pretty much always positive. This, of course, varied between getting pretty solid scores or incredible scores that got those entries into the best games of all time list. Still, this is a franchise that had gotten a really good track record for me. Heck, even Minish Cap was a particularly fun title for me, so even when the series makes it to a portable console, it’s still got great quality going for it.

This, of course, led me to Wind Waker. When I got into this title, I wasn’t entirely sure about the art style. It was such an odd choice of direction to me considering the art style of Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask. Still, I kept an open mind and gave the game a try anyway.

What I ended up seeing was that the art style did ultimately grow on me while playing. I eventually didn’t really mind it and thought it was just a different take on the franchise for variety.

What I wasn’t expecting, however, was how the game played. That’s what ultimately sunk my response to the game. I was left with the feeling of “what were they thinking with this?”

Because of that, I was left perplexed as to why the game was so well received. A small part of it may have had to do with people only playing the first few minutes of the game (which happens) and concluding the entire game was just as good. However, I don’t think that is the whole story here. So, I’m just left confused as to why the game was so well received after playing a good portion into the game.

Maybe it’s just me, but I didn’t find the game to be particularly enjoyable. I think it’s another review where I wound up going against the grain here and saying it wasn’t that great of a game. When you review hundreds of games, sooner or later, that happens.
