After a year of mainstream media providing political cover, the man that wants to jail/execute them has been elected president.
It was stunning news few outside of America wanted to hear. After promising to target non-white males, jailing or assassinating political rivals, and turning America into a dictatorship by ending all elections after he is elected, fascist dictator wannabe, Donald Trump, has been elected president of the United States.
The news was unbearable to hear for many American’s. As it became clear that Americans have voted against their obvious interests, some were saying that they were calling in sick. Others were taking things to the next level. Messages started appearing on social media of people contemplating suicide. Others openly contemplating fleeing the country for fear of their own personal safety. Search queries for how to move to Canada apparently surged:
U.S. search engine queries about moving to Canada shot up Wednesday in the wake of Donald Trump’s decisive win in the presidential election.
According to Google, “move to Canada” began trending upward Tuesday night as the election results trickled in and surged in the overnight hours, hitting a peak around 6 a.m. Wednesday as people woke up to the news.
Search interest was highest in Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, Oregon and Minnesota – states where Vice President Kamala Harris won.
Other related searches included “how to immigrate to canada from us,” along with “best places to live in Canada,” and “how to get a visa for Canada.”
“Zillow in Canada” was another related query, with people searching for the Canadian equivalent of the U.S. house-hunting app.
Grief was also pouring in from all corners of the internet. The big question on everyone’s minds being, “how could this happen? How could America sink so low?”
While some argue that we go through this every time there is an election, the sentiment this time is knowing that this one is different. Under Project 2025, something written by a number of close advisors to Donald Trump, the idea is to basically turn America into an autocracy. Between folding various law enforcement agencies into the Office of the Presidency and making them the presidents own personal law enforcement arms, independent law enforcement would become much more of a thing of the past. Mass internet censorship would be on the table as well.
Moreover, Trump himself said that he would jail reporters who dared to report on something that gives him the sads. Anything and anyone perceived as political rivals could also face death penalties. What’s more, the Supreme Court of the United States basically ruled that all crime by the president is legal. Minorities, of course, are going to be in for a rough ride thanks to the promise of mass deportations whether they are present legally or not.
While the American public was repeatedly warned that all of this would happen, it seems as though some voters decided life under a fascist dictatorship can’t be all that bad and voted for him anyway. So, at this point, it’s too late to make any changes or go back and change your mind. The path is now open to basically the end of American democracy.
As a result, all bets are off. Could America betray Ukraine and allow Putin to completely take over the country? Absolutely. Could Trump arrest high ranking Democrats like Obama, Biden, and Harris? Totally fair game. Could Trump raid any location run by anyone who is seen as progressive? Entirely possible. Could people be executed based on their political beliefs? Absolutely. Could Trump declare martial law across the United States? Certainly a possibility. Could Trump follow through and slap trade tariffs on literally everything and drive the cost of living up even more in the US? Totally within the realm of possibility.
After all, it appears that Republicans have obtained a majority in the House and the Senate, so as a result, nothing is stopping Trump from executing the most horrendous plan possible. After all, Trump already has the US Supreme Court in his back pocket, so litigating Trumps actions is going to go about as well as a fart in the wind.
What is rather ironic about the situation is where the mainstream media sits in all of this. For years, the mainstream media has long been doing everything they can to make Trump look as good as possible. This with weapons grade sane washing and trying to make Trump look as electable as possible. Whether it was arguing that suggesting that Liz Cheney face weapons drawn being little more than controversial, the insane blabbering being edited out, or some of the most extreme talking points being classified as Trump simply being “bombastic”, the mainstream media did everything in their power to make Trump sound like just another politician running for President.
With all that hard work, they helped Trump seize a shocking amount of power over the United States. For their reward, they are all likely to face being imprisoned because Trump and his followers simply do not care what they actually reported on. As far as they are concerned, the mainstream media is little more than “leftists propaganda” that is out to get them personally. They live in their own reality bubble and counterarguments about “fairness” in their coverage is likely going to fall on deaf ears.
Much like the link tax debate in Canada, the phrase “actions have consequences” rings particularly true here. As a result, mainstream media in the US is quite likely going to see the consequences of their actions.
Now, I’ve always been one to try and find at least some sort of silver lining in all of this, but this one seems like quite a stretch. The only thing that can be hoped for at this point is that the Trump presidency is mired in pure incompetence for the next four years. Plans get delayed and another election could actually occur so that America has a chance to have a sober third thought. Beyond that, though, America is fucked. There’s nothing else to say as far as I’m concerned.
