This review covers the industrial rock track Pitchshifter – Dead Battery.
This track was released in 2000 on the album Deviant.
The track starts with a filtered synth effect. It gradually fades in along with another effect. A guitar with a wah effect then comes in. After that, the drum kit comes in.
The vocals then join the track. A synth makes a brief appearance. Shortly after, the vocals take the track into the main chorus. Lead guitars then join the track during this part.
After that, the vocals take the track into the verse with the wah-like guitar returning. After that, the vocals take the track into the main chorus along with the lead guitars. This is capped off with an instrumental section with a few effects thrown in the mix. A second instrumental section follows suit with a filtered guitar. After that, a short third instrumental section brings the track back to the sound that this track more or less starts with.
From there, the vocals take the track into the next verse. Then, the vocals take the track into the next round in the main chorus. It’s worth noting backup vocals also make an appearance briefly. The vocals then stop with a delay effect. The last few echos are vocoded while the guitars lead the track out.
There’s a lot of decent elements throughout the track. The lead guitars offer some good energy during the main chorus. The wah-like guitar, in contrast, offers a nice sound during instrumental sections and verses. This gives the track a nice ping-pong effect of sound in a way which works well.
My big problem with this track is that it’s not that big of a departure from the track Microwaved from a previous album. Combine that with the fact that it’s almost as if someone came up with the title and worked the track around that title. In the end, the track seems somewhat disconnected with the title in a sense.
Overall, it’s a decent track. I’m not sure I would be one to get overly excited over it. Still, you could do a whole lot worse than this one. It’s got some interesting effects thrown in and the guitar variety works quite well. Lyrics, on the other hand, seem to be a bit weak here. A decent track all around, though.
